NEW PRINTING OFFICE

"The present Government Printing Office is out of date and its efficiency is impaired by congestion," said Mr. C H. Chapman, Labour candidate for Wellington North, at the Botanical Gardens tearooms last night. He had repeatedly urged the building of new premises, he said, and he was happy to say that plans for such a building were now being prepared and that work on it would soon begin. NOISE, BUT A GOOD HEARING 1 Though there was plenty of noise, questions never meant to be answered, expressions of doubt volubly expressed, applause and counterapplause, Mr. W. Appleton, the National candidate for Wellington Central, was given a very good hearing at the Webb Street Methodist Church Hall last night. The audience, which filled the hall, was apparently about evenly divided, so that, when there was noise, between points of the address, support and derision balanced nicely. No one lost his temper, though the differences were certainly heartily expressed, and only now and then was order called for by the chairman, Mr. W. Duncan. At the conclusion of his address, Mr. Appleton thanked the audience for a good hearing, whereupon there was a noise, but nobody minded. Whether the vote of thanks and confidence was carried by a wide margin, by no margin, or was not carried at all, was a matter for argument; none could really tell. It was a good night—honours even. j
