UNUSUAL MASQUE
FOREIGN MISSION BENEFITS
A crowded audience at the Wesley Hall, Taranaki Street, on Wednesday evening, saw a unique entertainment which was presented by the Wellington Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary. Entitled "The Masque of Noble Women," it portrayed famous women of the past and present, and was enacted by 32 members of the women's auxiliary. Esther, Dorcas, and Ruth, of Biblical history, were represented, also Susannah Wesley, Mary Slessor, Frances Willard, Nurse Cavell, Florence Nightingale, Joan of Arc, Elizabeth Fry, Queen Victoria, and many others, all in costume. The present missionary sisters were represented by Mrs. Goldie, Sisters Eleanor Dobby and Ethel McMillan being portrayed. A charming tableau was created on the stage when all took their places. Suitable music was played and sung during the evening by the Maranui Ladies' Choir. At the conclusion of the performance thank offerings were received by Mrs. Denby, treasurer. Eleven different branches of the Wellington Union sent up their gifts of the lington Union sent up their gifts, and the total amounted to about £130, which is a record.. Mrs. H. Nicolson, president, dedicated the offering to the work of the Home and Foreign Missions.
