* Mrs. Herbert Elworthy, Craigmore, South Canterbury, has retui-ned from a visit to the North Island. Mrs. G. S. . Crimp, Wellington, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Station Hotel. Mrs. Aplin and Miss Ngaire Aplin, Wellington, are visiting Auckland. Mrs. C. Coleridge Farr, who, while visiting Wellington, gave evidence before the Parliamentary Health Committee in connection with mental hospitals, returned to Christchurcrf on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Burge, Wellington, left on September 10 on their way home, and are due in Wellington at the end of October, states "The Post's" correspondent, writing from London. After an absence of thirty years from the Old Country, they have spent six very delightful months motoring in Scotland, Ireland, England, and Wales. For the first time in New Zealand, a woman, Mrs. C. Walker, was installed last week as chief of a Caledonian Society, states an exchange. The birthday celebration of the Caledonian Society at Onehunga, Auckland, combined also the installation ceremony. The new chief is the wife of the founder of the society. Mrs. L. A. Chapman, Northland, has left for Auckland, where she will be the guest of Mrs. G. Pocock, Herne Bay. Sister V. Armstrong was granted leave of absence to enable her to avail herself of the Florence Nightingale Scholarship offered by the Health Department for post graduate study in England and on the Continent, at a meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board last night. The work under the scholarship consists of ten and a half months' training, including a course of several months at Bedford College and the School of Nursing. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Travers Ellis have left for a short visit to the Chateau Tongariro. Sister V. Armstrong, who has been acting assistant matron at the Wellington Public Hospital, was confirmed in that appointment at a meeting of the board last night. v Miss Laura Haybittle, formerly of Hobson Street Hospital, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs. W. McNab, Ngaio, left for Engl£r-a by the Ruahine yesterday: Mrs. E. Lamberg and Miss D. Ellis, who have been staying at the Chateau' Tongariro for the ski-ing, have returned to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Knight who have been staying at the Grand Hotel, Auckland, have returned to Wellington. Mrs. H. C. Perry, Nelson, is spending a short holiday in Wellington. Mrs. J. M. Fraser, president of the Christchurch Central Townswomen's Guild, and Mrs. R. H. Smith, are delegates attending the conference of the Ne-# Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds, which is being held in Wellington. Mrs. C. H. Clibborn, Christchurch, has come to Wellington -to visit her sister, Mrs. K. W. O'Connor, Oriental Bay, and Mrs. J. D. Buchanan, Hataitai. Mrs. W. Herbert, -who has been visiting New Plymouth, has returned to Wellington. Mrs. M. McElrea (Milton), and the Misses B. Otterburn (London), M. A. Alexander, and D. Spiller (Christchurch), are staying at the Empire Hotel. Guests at the Midland Hotel include Mrs. H. G. Hobson (Dannevirke), Mrs. Algie (Auckland), and Mrs. A. C. Kiell (Christchurch). Mesdames Alan Shannon (Queensland), H. B. Maunsell (Masterton), C. Bidwell (Wairoa), Thorne George (Auckland), H. L. Widdowson (Wanganur). H. Hamer (Christchurch), Misses M. Owen (Auckland), P. Thompson (Christchurch), M, Maunsell (Masterton) are staying at' the Hotel Waterloo.
