SURMOUNT'S SIX
MERRYMAN GALLOPS WELL
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. The weather was unfavourable at Awapuni yesterday, when horses engaged at Otaki were galloped. The course proper was open and the going quite good, although inclined to be slippery. The most impressive efforts were those of Surmount, Dainty Sue, Royal Choice, Merryman, and Chere Amie. Chere Amie was going smoothly at the end of five furlongs in lmin Bsec. Merryman was a shade in front of Vadanoe at the end of a similar distance in lmin 7 2-ssec, the last two being run in 27 2-ssec. Quadroon (Bowden) stretched out nicely during a mile gallop in lmin 55sec, after running the first half in 55 3-ssec. Titter and Snigger were together at the conclusion of a fivefurlong gallop which occupied lmin 11 3-ssec. Both look well. Warehi and Rolling Home sprinted six furlongs in lmin 27sec and Laughing Lass sprinted three furlongs in 41 l-ssec. Dainty Sue and Royal Choice were together at the end of six furlongs which took lmin 25 3-ssec, the last three in 43sec, and both were going easily. Surmount was clear of Tail Light at the completion of six furlongs in lmin 23 4-ssec, the first half-mile in 55sec. Beaupartir was not troubled in running five furlongs in lmin 10 3-ssec. Thrasos finished well clear of Brazil after running half a mile in 54 3-ssec. Thrasos moved well in the going. Tidal Gift covered four furlongs in 57sec, the last three in 43sec. G. R. Tattersall will not be riding at Otaki, but he expects that his knee will have recovered in a day or two and that he will return to the saddle next week.
