REAR-ADMIRAL DRUMMOND

PREPARING FOR DEPARTURE

AUCKLAND, May 17.

Although the final arrangements for his departure have not yet been completed, the Commodore Commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, Rear-Admiral Drummond, will leave Auckland on June 10, after having completed his term on the station. He will go to Australia by the Awatea and will join the Oronsay on June 18 for England. His successor, as commander of the sea-going squadron, Captain Glennie, who will assume the rank of commodore, will fly his flag from the Achilles, of which he is at present chief executive officer to the admiral. The other commodore who has been appointed under the Government's new plan is Captain Horan, who will proceed to Wellington to take up the post of first naval member of the Naval Board, following his arrival at Auckland by the Remuera on June 4.

Rear-Admiral Drummond has already started a round of official duties, which will necessarily be his last in New Zealand. Although it is not usual for the retiring commodore to review all ships of the station, at the same time the annual inspections of all of them have taken on the nature of farewell visits. One of these was held today when, accompanied by Commander Tinley and other senior officers, Rear-Admiral Drummond inspected the training and depot ship Philomel.
