ONKAPARINGA ABANDONED
After inspecting the course on Easter Sunday, the committee of the Onkaparinga Racing Club (South Australia) decided to abandon the Great Eastern Steeplechase and Onkapannga Cup Meeting this year. In 48 hours five inches of rain had fallen at. Oakbank, and in front of the grandstand the water was a foot deep in places. The abandonment was the first in the history of the Onkaparinga Racing Club. Although the. decision of the committee has resulted in a direct loss of about £2000, the actual cost to .the club for the year will be in. the vicinity of £4000 when the cost of staff and administrative expenses are taken into account. The club,has no source hut there was scarcely a drop in the ctty and the £1000, which would have assisted m defraying the loss, will not be collected.
