COLOURS DISCUSSED

DERBY GREY FOR MEN

The one section of Lord Derby's wardrobe in which he permits himself variety, and fashion creators' licence in the naming of "new" colours were among subjects discussed at the British Colour Council dinner, stated Marianne Mayfayre in the London "Daily Telegraph."

, Lord Derby revealed that he is always being urged to wear different colours, but that he has only allowed himself to do so in one branch of dress —his pyjamas.

He is one of the 'few "public men to have a colour named after him. Derby grey will be included in a first book of colours for men's wear to be published shortly by the council.

■ "Elephant's breath" wasl an instance given by Lord Aberconway, president of the Royal Horticultural Society, of the fantastic names by which . dress designers are christening colours. This was the name given by a designer to a "mud" shade.

Instances given by Lord Aberoonway of the "sad confusion" from which the council is rescuing colours included rose, smoke, eau de nil, and flame. Each of these names could be given to a variety of tones and the council was establishing exact shades.

Flower colours are to be standardised by means of a horticultural colour chart to be brought out In May, by the council with the co-operatiorf of the Royal Horticultural Society
