PETONE HOCKEY CLUB

The annual meeting of the Petone Hockey Club, last evening was presided over by Mr. H. B. Martin. , It, was decided to hold the first practice day on April 23. Officers were elected as follows:— Patron, Mr. E. Hartley; president,. Mr, H. B. Martin; vice-presidents, all reelected with the addition of Messrs. H. Crankshaw, V. R. Griffiths, and H. C. D. Maefarlane; delegates to Wellington, Hockey Association, Messrs. A. M. Mactarlane, A. F. Bell, J. D. West, and F. H. Whitcher; management committee, Messrs. H. B. Martin (chairman), AT V. Milford, F. H. Whitcher, A. M. Macfarlane, A. F. Bell, J. D. West, W. H. McGowan, J. Bold, J. Bugg, and H. Priest; selection committee, Messrs. H. B. Martin, W. H. McGowan, and A. F. MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Appearing in the, Magistrate's Court today, before Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S:M., charged with a fliEth statutory offence of drunkenness, Joseph Daley, a fireman and labourer, aged 36, was convicted and sentenced to two months' imprisonment. , John Taylor McDougall, a labourer, aged 43, was fined £1, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, for a second offence of drunkenness.

Thomas' Patrick Kavanagh, a miner, aged 58; was deemed to be idle and' disorderly in. that he placed himself in Lambton Quay for the purpose of begging ■alms. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. For deserting from the m.v. Port Alma at Wellington on March 24, William Wilson, a seaman, aged 42, was sentenced ,to fourteen days' imprisonment. ' : A - waterside worker, John Foster, aged 66, was fined £1 for striking Marian Patricia Foster. .

For, being found without lawful excuse on enclosed premises, the Chinese Mission, Taranaki Street, James Alexander Thompson, a labourer, aged 61, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Enid Payne, a domestic, aged 27, was deemed \o be a rogue and a vagabond in that she had insufficient lawful means of support, having been previously convicted of being idle and disorderly. She was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment.
