PROTECTION SOCIETY
MANY CASES REPORTED
The first meeting for the year of the committee of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children took place at the society's rooms, Bowen House,, yesterday afternoon. Lady Statham presided. The secretary (Mrs. Coventry) reported that she had had 96 people in to see her during the month, and that she had paid 40 visits. Forty letters came to the office, and 44 were sent out. Mrs. Coventry gave a brief account of the cases, some of which were very distressing, and explained that she had carefully followed up those which had connection with children. She had been successful in happily settling some matrimonial disturbances, which is always an object of the society. The question of the annual party given by the society was discussed, and plans were made and will be reported upon at the next meeting. The secretary stated that the society had been approached on the subject of matrimonial advertisements, some of which had led to various troubles, and it was decided to make further inquiries. Sincere appreciation was expressed of the work of the late Sir Truby King and mention was made of the support he always had from his wife, the late Lady Truby King, the feeling being that the loss to the community was great, and their work deeply appreciated. Mrs. Rains was thanked for gifts to the office and also clothing, which will be most acceptable in some of the distressed cases.
To make your stockings last longer, takt. a piece of paraffin wax and rub it well over the foot of the stocking on the inner side, paying particular attention to the heels and toes. Do this quite frequently. The wax leaves a deposit which reduces friction, and thus helps to preserve the material:
