CORNWELL CUP
HEAVY WEATHER
RACE POSTPONED
Boats and crews were got ready for the filth Cornwell Cup race at Plim-rnei-ton today in a strong and gusty northerly wind with frequent heavy rain squalls. The race was to have started at 0.30 a.m., but when Manukau, Auckland, and Wellington capsized, and Wanganui was blown on to the rocks near the clubhouse and broke a rudder gudgeon—all before the start —it was decided at 10.45 a.m. to postpone the race till 2 p.m.
Wellington, Plimmertoii, Parcmata, and Tauranga were lvady to race under full sail, but the rest were reefed down.
A meeting of delegates was held last night and it was decided that it should be optional to carry the spinnaker tack either to the windward or leeward of the. forestay.
Several delegates spoke in favour of the Bermuda mast, but no motion was tabled. Likewise the use of lighter spinnaker material was advocated, but there was no motion on the subject. ■ ■
.The Wellington delegate moved that the Cornwell Cup contests should be decided on. a points system over five races, but the remit was rejected.
Another delegate suggested an age limit of 21, but again there was no motion.-
