OBITUARY
MR. ROBERT TUDEHOPE
A member of the Auckland City Council' for many years, Mr. Robert Tudehope, died on Monday at his home Jin Remuera, aged 84. The fourth son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. Tudehope, who airived in the ship Duchess of Argyle in 1842, he was born in Auckland. In his younger years, Mr. Tudehope was a member of the Auckland Licensing Committee. 'In 1899 he was elected to represent the south ward on the City Council, and he remained a member of the council for 12 years. He, also represented the council on the Auckland Hospital Board, and was a member of the Auckland Drainage Board. He was .an active temperance, Church, and Sunday school worker, associated with the Congregational Church in Beresford Street. Mr. Tudehope was also a member of the Masonic fraternity, having joined Lodge Eden many years ago.
Educated at a school conducted by a Mr. Hedgcock in' Pitt Street, Mr. Tudehope was later apprenticed to the plumbing trade with Mr. T. F. Worfolk. In 1875 he started in business on his own account as a master plumber, 'and- conducted the business for 40 years, before retiring. Mr. Tudehope was married on November 16, 1881, to the youngest daughter of the fate Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bartley; who arrived in Auckland in the ship Joseph Fletcher in 1854. Mr. and Mrs. Tudehope celebrated their golden wedding in 1931. Mrs. Tudehope died in September, 1935. Mr. Tudehope is survived by four sons, Mr. P. R. Tudehope, Dr. C. B. Tudehope, Mr. C. E. i Tudehope, and Mr. O. C Tudehope, all of Auckland. There are four grandchildren.
