ROAD CYCLING

RACE FROM OTAKI

A number of Wellington riders competed in the Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's annual cycle road race from Otaki to Paraparaumu and back on Saturday afternoon, a distance of approximately 30 miles, ihe "field" of 36 also included Otaki,. Levin, Shannon, Palmerston North, Feilding, and Napier riders. The race was won by T. Walsh, of Wellington, who crossed the finishing line barely a wheel in front of J. Allen (Feilding). Fastest time honours were shared by R. Loader and C. Biggs, both Wellington riders.

A fairly strong wind from the south affected the riders on the run down to Paraparaumu, but they had the advantage of the wind on the homeward journey and on the straight stretches some of them attained' a fast speed. One rider, J. Patterson, fell between Te Horo and Paraparaumu, and received medical attention for ail injured arm and leg. After the race the competitors were entertained at afternoon tea and the prizes were presented by Mr. D. Richards.

The race results were as follows:— T. Walsh, Wellington (4min), lhr 18min 7sec, 1; J. Allen, Feilding (4min), lhr 18min 7 l-ssec, 2; R. Stevens, Wellington (3min), lhr 18min 7 2-ssec, 3: F. Blackett, Otaki (3min). lhr 18min 7 3-ssec, 4.
