MONTHLY REPORT

The monthly meeting of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society was, presided over by the president, Mrs. Jowett. Mrs. Jowett referred sympathetically to the death'in London of Miss Pattrick, late Director.of Plunket Nursing. Mrs. T. G. Gray spoke of Miss Pattrick's wonderfully sympathetic personality and her extreme unselfishness in everything that concerned the society. Other tributes were paid by various, members of the committee, and a general desire was shown that an effort should be made to have a memorial. as .a. permanent tribute to her memory. ' Mrs. Jowett was appointed.to represent the society on No. , 3 committee for the Centennial Exhibition.

The New Zealand conference of the society will be held. at the Dominion Farmers' Conference Hall on November 4 and 5, aiid a special meeting was convened to consider the remits.

A children's plain and fancy dress party will,be held-on Saturday afternoon in St. Francis Hall, and tickets are to be, obtained from the committee members and the D.I.C.

The committee is arranging to issue its annual invitation to the public to view the "Rhododendron Dell" and the Karitane Hospital one day in the last week in October for a small admission fee, and afternoon tea will be provided.

The committee acknowledges with thanks the following donations and subscriptions:—Subscriptions paid to central office, £1 15s; boxes at central rooms, £2 16s sd; Lyall Bay box, £2 lis. 7d; received from suburban committees: Brooklyn, dance £7 3s 7d, subscriptions £4; Island Bay, dance £22 335, subscriptions and donations £2 8s 7d; Karori, jumble sale £22, subscriptions £19; Khandallah, subscriptions and donations £11 19s 2d; Miramar, guessing competition £6 6s 6d, subscriptions and donations £4 6s lOd; Northland, bazaar £33; Seatoun, £2 2s; Wadestown, produce day £5, subscriptions £9 16s 6d, box £1.9s 4d. The charge nurse reported that the older children's section,is very busy, parents realising ' the necessity of learning mothercraft and appreciating the supervision received by regular .visits to the' nurse in charge of this section. Miss M. Biss is leaving the district work to take a position as senior sister at the Karitane,Hospital. Miss Malcolm, lately transferred from Wairoa, takes over Miss Biss's district in the suburbs. .

Thanks are recorded to Mesdames Aitken, Wood, Tripe, Turnbull, Whyte, Maylor, Till, and Plank, for driving the nurses to cases.

The matron, of the Karitane Hospital reported that the admissions for the month were 21 babies and 11 mothers., and 22 babies and 5 mothers were in residence. The triplets from Hastings were steadily progressing, their weights being 111b soz, 111b 7oz, and 111b lOoz. Visitors included 26 dental students, also instructresses from the Red Cross Association with 60 girls from the.Wellington South School. The matron thanks these girls for their, gifts of bootees, bibs, etc., arid for having an orange day for the hospital,-also the dental students for' their gift. The Karitane group organised'a :raffle, the proceeds of which, £23, are to;be spent at the hospital. Mrs. Mackie is thanked for.woollen singlets, and the Bowie Co. for. two cases • of, oranges
