ELABORATE PREPARATIONS

The arrangements for the annual Red I Cross Ball to be held in October during Race Week were carried a stage further by a meeting of the committee, over which Dr. Alexander Gillies presided. The chairman welcomed the following representing co-opted * organisations: Lieutenant-Colonel Manson and Mr. C. Mack (Chamber of' Commerce), Mr. Ti Goodall (P.: and T. Association), Mr. D. Ross (Police Social Club), Mr. B. O'Brien (2ZB). The Travel Club, Bank Officers' Guild, and Plunket.. Society signified their interest and support. A letter was received from the official secretary to his Excellency the Governor-General stating that their Excellencies would be pleased to attend the function. It was i stated that the Mayor had kindly undertaken to place his rooms and the committee rooms at the Town Hall at the disposal of the committee on' the night of the ball. vices of the sth Wellington Regiment Orchestra for the ball. Mrs. Dennistoun-Wood, convener of the supper committee, reported that satisfactory , arrangements were being made in. this connection. Messrs. W. D. and H. O. Wills had agreed to arrange a stall for cigarettes and tobacco and the Phoenix Company to attend to the soft drinks. , The provision of ices was left in the hands of Mr. A. E. Ivin. The following committee was set up to attend to the furnishing: Mesdames King and Edwards, Dr. Gillies, and Messrs. A. S. Blackie, A. Ivin, and the secretary. Members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment notified their readiness to help to the fullest possible extent in' the supper arrangements.
