OPOSSUMS ALSO DOWN

At the second sale of opossum skins, held at Wellington yesterday, Dalgety and Co., Ltd., offered skins drawn from the Western Lake. Featherston, Manawatu, Wairarapa, Taihape, and Wellington districts. The general get-up of the offerings was excellent, but the quality of the skins was not as good as last season. A fair proportion was faulty, very few supers being offered. Prices showed a decline on August quotations, due to the restricted der mand. The light colours, blues and greys, sold fairly well, but darks, blacks, browns, etc., were hard tp dispose of. Super greys sold to 10s each, first greys to 9s Id, super rustys to 7s 7a, first rusty to 6s 9d, super red necks to 6s, super black reds to 5s lid, super red blacks to 4s lid. The following are the prices realised: —Super greys, 9s Id to 10s; first greys, 7s lid to 9s Id; second greys, 5s lid to 7s 7d; third greys, 3s 6d. to 4s Id; super rustys, to 7s 7d; first rustys, to 6s 9d; second rustys, to 4s lid; third rustys, to 2s 8d; super red necks, to 6s- first red necks, to 5s 2d; second red necks, to 4s Id; third red necks, to 3s 3d; super slates, to ss; first slates, tp 4s; second slates, to 3s; super black reds, to 5s lid; first black reds, to 5s Id; second black reds, to 3s 4d; super red blacks, to 4s lid; first red blacks, to 3s 6d; second red blacks, to 2s 6d; super browns, ; to 4s lid; first browns, to 4s; second browns, to 2s 6d; pales and rustys, 4s lid to 6s lid; rustys and red necks, 3s 6d to 4s 3d; kittens and rumpers, Is to Is 3d. . : The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report a good demand and keen competition. Thenbest line of skins (239), mostly greys with a percentage of darks, ex the Hutt district, was passed in at 6s 7d, but sales were made at 6s sd, 6s 3d, and 6s for trappers' lots drawn from various districts. Other sales were: 135 blues, greys, rusty greys, rednecks, 6s sd•: 90 blues, greys, rusty greys, blacks, browns, 6s 3d; 71 greys, rusty rednecks, blacks, browns, 6s; 289 greys, rusty, rednecks, blacks, browns, 5s lOd Other lines sold as low as 4s 6d, but the average price for good + trappers lines would be about 5s 3d to 6s per skin. ■ '
