TEMPERANCE LEAGUE
The recent meeting of the Wellington branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was presided over by the newly-elected president, Miss Atkinson. Being "Cradle Roll Day" and taking the form of a party, it was a festive time for the many Children present. . _ Mrs. Lee led the devotional period. Miss Atkinson and Mesdames Boss and Porte were appointed to represent the branch at the District Convention at Upper Hutt, . , The president gave a short talk to the mothers on "Temperance." The programme was provided by the children. Vetia Stewart gave a song. Eric Haylock a piano solo, and Thelnia Wyse, Gavin and Thelma Casely recitations. Miss Atkinson told the children a story which was much appreciated, and then an enjoyable "sit-down" tea was provided, paper hats and balloons being presented to each child. Games concluded the afternoon's programme.
