CLIFTON HOUSE DANCES

Both the senior and junior old girls of Clifton Hmse School held their annual dance on Thursday evening— the seniors :n the "Peter Pan" hall and the juniors in the "Victoria" Hall.
The Misses Currie and Craig spent an hour or so with each group of old scholars. The committee for the seniors comprised the Misses S. Ross i (hon. secretary); J, Graham, M. Peek, P. Strachan, B. Wilson, and J. Currie. The junior dance was managed by the Misses J. Jackson (hon. secretary), J. Coull; R. Guscott," D. Bayly, M. Robertson, and Gerald Jones, Alan Mitchell, Lloyd Jenkins, Tony Wells, B. Talboys, G. Brinkman, and K. McNaught. Mesdames Burnet, Turnbull, Jackson, and Bayly were chaperons. Farewell Party. Residents of the Mataroa district spent a very pleasant evening recently, when they met at the local hall to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. W. HGill, who are leaving the district. Dancing and vocal items were enjoyed, and,the opportunity was taken to present a silver tea-service and tray to' Mr. Gill, popular headmaster of the school frtjm the children and residents. Both he and his wife also received gifts from the. Women's Institute of which Mrs. Gill had been secretary. The speakers were Mesdames H. Bosbler and Dellow, and Messrs. Brooky, Williams, end T. Davies. Mr. Gill has been transfererd to Kirjtaki. New Name. . At the annual meeting of,the lady Jellicoe Club, it was decided, to rename the club, which now is known «s the Wanganui Women's Club. Mrs. H. V. Hammond "was. re-elected president. Choir Entertains. The Orpheons Choir of the Aramohp Institute, under Mr. E. Buller, entertained the old people of the Jubilee Home at an afternoon tea party recently. Afterwards a programme of vocal and elocutionary items was given. v renonaU Mrs, E. McDonald and Miss I. Taylor are the guests of Mrs. Ray Sutherland, FwWl. Mrs. V. R. Earnshaw, Wellington, is visiting her sister) Mrs. E. A. WellardMr. and Mrs, H. E, B. Newton have returned from Wellington and left during the week 'for the Chateau. Mrs, Eric Jones is visiting Palmerston North. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Gilligan have returned from the college football tournament at Wellington, accompanied by Miss Suzanne Izard. Mrs. Morton-Jones, Wellington, ,is ■visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Hine. Miss M. Bell, Wellington, who has been visiting Wanganui, has gone on to the Chateau. Mr. and Mrs. C. R.
