Californian oranges brought by the Mariposa, which reached Auckland, last Friday, was carried on to Sydney 'by the' vessel, Although she' remained in port overnight and did not sail for, Australia until Saturday evening, it was not found possible to unload the whole of the orange shipment, some of the delay being caused by rain. , These oranges were costing 40s a case to land, but, in view,of the shortage, there was keen demand for them, However, every importer had a large share of his consignment carried on to Sydney and will be faced with heavy loss. The Mariposa is due back from Sydney on May 31 and the remainder of her orange shipment will come into a well-supplied market. 'The steamer Limerick will arrive with 8000 cases of Cook Island • oranges on May 27, and three days after the landing of the Mariposa's shipment the Matua willbring another 18,000 cases of oranges from the Cook Islands.
