\ YEAR IN REVIEW
The annual report of the Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay, and Melrose auxiliary committee of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association, which is to ■be presented to the annual meeting .of the committee on June 16, reveals a very sound state of the committee's membership and finances. During last year the committee had 126 members, and only 15 were on the mutual roll at the end of the year, although 123 cases were assisted during the year. A total of 225J work days were subsidised by the committee, £52 14s being found by the committee' to subsidise £75 6s paid by employers. In addition, £70 18s 3d was paid out as direct assistance to returned soldiers in need of help. . • ' . The'present membership' of the committee ; represents an increase of 19 on - the previous year, and, although the demands for relief were comparatively heavy, the finances are in a sound state, £75 being held'to meet contingencies. The mutual 'roll was reduced from 35 a year ago arid there are no tradesmen now on this roll. 'The social activities of the committee,'which are well-known,to, all returned soldiers in the ar&a, were even greater than usual ■ during the year, card evenings, picnics, and tennis matches proving particularly enjoyable to members, their wives, and daughters.
