SPEED AND THRILLS
POINTS TO WATERSIDE
After a scoreless first half and eighteen minutes of the second without result, Waterside and Marist. got right into scoring, mood at the Basin Reserve and rattled on six goals in fhe 27 minutes to full time. Although there was little between the teams, Waterside made the better use of their opportunities and ran out the winners by 4 goals to 2. Throughout, the football was of an excellent standard, except in the shooting, and as'the game was played at high speed there were plenty of thrills for the spectators, especially; in the welter..,of goals towards the end. The teams were:— Waterside. —Cummings; Hazel, Bol'ton; Anderson, Longbottom, .Cocks; Walker, Thompson, Janes, Jefomson, Dunnsmuir. , Marist.—Turkington; J. Laracy, Duffy; Hindle, Foley, Traynor; It. Quirke, Kershaw, Darragh, Hatchard, M. Quirke. It was even going all the way in the first half, with Marist having more opportunities than their opponents. In every other department the play was good, combination especially being well maintained, with the result that there were many scintillating movements. Eighteen minutes from the start of the second half Turkington, after clearing' grandly in two Waterside raids, rushed out to a' high: shot and punched it up and slightly backwards for Jeromson to send it into an empty net. Waterside 1, Marist o. ' :Eiglit minutes' later Janes let fly a rising drive that struck; the crossbar andbounced downward, apparently over the line," but Longbottom rushed in to make'sure. Waterside 2, Marist ,0. Within four minutes Marist had equalised, Hatchard snapping a goal when Cummings was beaten by the bounce and Hindle whipping in a beauty after a corner on the right. Waterside 2, Marist 2. With ten minutes to go Dunnsmuir netted with a low drive from his wing and Janes put the issue beyond doubt with a slashing drive after a solo run, two minutes before the final whistle, which sounded with the score:. Waterside 4, Marist 2. , •-,'.- The referee was Mr. J. Graham;
