TECHNICAL FADE OUT

The low sun and a slippery ground were big factors in the game between Technical College Old Boys arid Petone at Petone yesterday afternoon. Gates, Pullen; Stewart, Torrington^ Liddicoat, Wrigley, Clentworth. Technicals forwards gave the Petone backs all they could manage from the beginning of the first half, but the defence held strongly. Many strong Technical attacks fizzled out near the goal. Petone gained ground • by. way of long, accurate passing bouts, which put Technical on the defensive for a time. Craig sent irf a hot one, which Redmond saved in fine style. A few minutes later, Leslie missed narrowly from close in. Coming in at top speed from midfield, Patterson sent in a low, diagonal shot which found the net. Petone 1,; Technical 0. Petone went right' back, and Craig missed narrowly from a similar angle.Petone were getting the better.of the exchanges, and held the offensive for some time. Technical kept in the picture with a series of raids which kept the Petone custodian on the alert. For the last ten minutes of the spell play was indeterminate.. Playing with the sun at their backs, the Technical forwards opened the second half strongly. Petone went back at top speed, and from well out on the right White sent in an angle shot which scored. Petone 2, Technical 0. Following that, Leslie cut through, dummied \ his way through the backs, arid tricked the goalie for another score. Petone 3. Technical 0. By this time, Petone had Technicals measure, and maintained a steady attack which several times narrowly missed a further score. After a brief period of attack by Technical, Petone launched a likely attack. Redmond was charged down after he had punched the ball clear, and Reid registered in an open goal-mouth. The kick was disallowed. White retired hurt, but Petone kept Technical busy during his absence. Towards the end of the game, Leslie passed to Cullen. who made the final score: Petone 4, Technical College Old Boys 0.
