CORONATION BALL

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

.The spirit of the, Coronation was well carried out at the Coronation Ball held in the Horticultural Hall 'in Lower' Hutt. In the front of the hall a large marquee was erected, the' interior being decorated with stands of palms, lighting in coronation colour?, 'and streamers of tiny flags. Here a continuous buffet supper was supplied.

' The original supper-room, to the rear of the hall, was converted into a palm lounge, and fitted with small tables arid lounge chaiirs. Palms stood in the cbrfiers, and a coronet frieze around, the walls looked most effective against' the green curtaining of the windows. A radio was installed in the lounge for the broadcasting of the Coronation service from London.

The 'ballroom itself was strikingly decorated. An entire ceiling was fashioned of closely-hung streamers in coronation colours,. and hanging baskets of ferns contrasted prettily with the srQfdl illuminated balls and the large faceted ball suspended from the ceiling in the centre, of the ballroom. A frieze of royal purple surrounded the robrh, and below'it were shields, coronets,-and .coronation drapings at the windows. The Duke of Gloucester's coat of arms formed >the centrepiece for, the stage, and, opposite the Duke of York's heraldic device, an illuminated crown was made prominent by spotlights.
