TRADE POINTS
MANCHESTER AND N.Z,
MR. NASH'S DISCUSSIONS
(Received March 11, 1.40 p.m.)
LONDON, March 10,
The New Zealand. Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, after calling on the Lord Mayor of Manchester, accompanied the chairman, Sir Frederick West, on a trip through the Manchester ship canal and inspected the storage and berthage facilities. He met the produce section of the Chamber of Commerce and discussed two-way trade. He said that New Zealand would follow the most economic way of shipping and marketing produce to Manchester. A report on the canal's facilities will be forwarded to the New Zealand office, in London. Mr. Nash promised to remove as far as possible what the Lancashire, wholesalers regard as unjust and uneconomic in the marketing procedure, and he added that he would do his utmost to extend the purchase of Lancashire products.
Mr. Nash was a guest at the annual dinner of the Provision Exchange. He said that though free trade at present was impossible, it must be realised that the people of all countries, colours, and creeds were one. He urged the discussing with the shipping companies the building of suitable vessels to reach Manchester through the canal.
