A FACILE VICTORY

ROTOMA'S HIGH PROMISE

Rotorua ' showed her opposition points about galloping in the Tawaha Hack Handicap. She was within range of the front at the straight entrance, after being allowed plenty of time in which to find her feet, and she swept past them facilely over the last furlong to score going away by a length and a half. This three-year-old daughter of Gainscourt, the first horse to carrj T the colours of Mr. : C. Copper, a son of the late Mr. W Jf Cooper, and who received her as a gift from his father's estate, is one of the most promising hacks in commission at present in these .parts. She was quickly a winner at Woodville last month, and in her only previous start during the holidays she was fourth in the champion hack event at Awapuni. Le Toquet, who ran a good race til) the straight in the champion hack event on the first day, made play out in front with Free Gold and then stayed on to beat Alunga for second by a head. Alunga, getting through on the inner in the straight, ran on better than on Friday. Meamea came from the rear for fourth, but Free Gold and Sansfoy both failed to see out the distance after early prominence. Joyous was chopped back in the first furlong and that seemed to settle her.
