CORNWELL CUP CONTEST START MADE AT TAURANGA (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)" TAURANGA, This Day. The first race of the Cornwell Cup contest started at 9.30 this morning, the ten boats representing Whangarei, Auckland, Onehunga, Hamilton, Tauranga, Plimmerton, Paremata, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Christchurch. There was almost a flat calm at the start, with the tide flowing. An hour later light airs had carried Tauranga, Plimmerton, and Christchurch a few yards over the starting line in that order with the others nearby. At 11.30 the boats were still beating to the first mark against a light northerly breeze. The race will hava to be declared oft as there is no chance of it being completed within three hours.
