SINGLES ON MONDAY Bowlers from all parts of New Zealand will be congregating in Wellington over the weekend for the commencement of the New Zealand Bowling Association's twenty-fourth annual championship tournamenl on Monday.. The president of the association (the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C.) will declare the tournament open at the Welling*; ton green at 8.45 a.m. and play fn the singles will commence at 9 a.m. The entries for the singles, pairs, and: rinks are the best ever received for a' championship tournament at Wellington and include many prominent bowlers. F. Livingstone (Onehunga Club), who won the singles championship at' Christchurch a year ago, is not con-! testing his title but will take part in;; the tournament in the pairs and rinks.j R, Haworth (Canterbury Club), who; skipped the winning pair and rink a] year ago, has entered for all events. His' 1 lead in the pairs at Christchurch, J.' W. Turrin, has not entered, having been-j replaced by P. Munn. He has retained 1 C. Elsom and C. Shaw in his rink, butj J. W. Turpin has been replaced by P. Munn, who will play second.

PROMINENT PARTICIPANTS. Other prominent players taking partin the tournament are J. M. Bracken-< ridge, Lyall Bay Club (pairs 1922,. singles 1921); P. E. Warner, Welling-; ton Club (singles 1915, 1919, and 1923);. W. Bremner, West End Club, Auckland (rinks 1924 and 1929); W. Carswellv Taieri Club, Otago (rinks 1922. singles 1924 and 1934); W. Foster, Caledonian Club (rinks 1928, singles 1918 and 1926); M. Walker, Auckland Club (rinks 1932, pairs 1927); and J. Scott, Caledonian Club (singles 1928 and 1932). There are also a number of players who have won single events and these include L. M. Naylor, Thorndon Club (rinks 1933); W. M. Parkhouse, Wellington Club (singles 1933); and J. Porteous,. Wellington Club (rinks 1914). J. Porteous is the veteran championship winner of the tournament. All city and suburban greens and the Porirua green will be used for the tournament and play will be continued until the winners are found. Section play in the singles will occupy Monday and Tuesday; in the pairs, Wednesday and Thursday; and seven days have been tit aside for section play in the rinks. Post-section play will be pushed ahead as the players become available. A splendid official programme has been printed and distributed to players, who will have no difficulty m locating their places on the greens from day to day. The headquarters for the tournament will be at the Wellington Bowling Club's pavilion and the secretary of the association (Mr. L. McNabb) has made arrangements to have full results posted at that green as they, come in from the outlying greens. Sections Q and Ql in the singles competition and sections M and Ml in the pairs competition are to be played at Porirua instead of at Kelburn and a special bus will leave the Hotel Cecil for Porirua at 8 o'clock each morning, returning after the last game.
