Sargoods made a bad beginning, but Rowland with an unbeaten century gave the game a different complexion. Sargoods had 205 on for six wickets when stumps were drawn, thus securing a,surprise win. The Working Men's Club-Taubmans match produced one of the highest and most rapid-scoring games \played in A grade matches for several seasons. Working Men's Club batsmen generally showed great solidity, Foley contributing a great 145 not out to the total oi 285 for five wickets. Taubmans first three wickets fell cheaply, but Rotherham (137) and Johnstone (57) liftedthe score along at the rate of about four runs a minute. Following their dismissal, a rot then set in, and Taubmans failed by 35 runs to reach the total set by Working Men's Club. Taxes Department made a very poor showing against Woolworths, Meech and Stiver skittling the .batsmen in great style. Woolworths opened aggressively, declaring their innings closed with 181 for nine wickets. Having first use of the wicket, Jasco, in their match with Customs Agents, collared the bowling from trie start and declared with 240 for four wickets. Erskine (116) and Kilby (89) were the outstanding contributors. Customs Agents were given a great start by Tilyard, Yeoman, and Cullen. The side put on' 211 for five wickets when stumps were drawn. _ Amalgamated Bricks, facing an attack distinguished by really goodlength bowling, were at the wickets until nearly 5 o'clock when dismissed for 168 by Prestige Hosiery. Prestige made a determined bid to score the necessary runs, and were only 36 shoit of the total when stumps were diawn.
