LOW-SCORING MATCH

It tool: Kilbirnie sixty minutes to knock up 100 runs when they mci Wellington at Kilbirnie on Saturday afternoon under excellent playing conditions. The batsmen did not appear to be at all troubled by the Wellington bowling, but the alertness of fieldsmen slowed up the scoring. Kilbirnie in their first innings, scored 164, while Wellington could only score 90 m reply. Foley, Morgan, Mason, and Kuhn were the only batsmen with double figures. At- stumps Kilbirnie had scored 90 runs for the loss of five wickets, making their total up-to-date 254 H. Rice, the promising young Kilbirnie bat, made capital out of the Wellington bowling with a first innings knock of 42. In the second strike he scored 44 not out. His performance; was the best of the day. Wellington's batsmen were not at all comfortable, the bowling of Wilson and J. Ashenden keeping them on the defensive. Foley, with 27, was the highest scorer. Despite the tricky nature of the bowling, the batsmen should have done better as the wicket seemed to favour their chances. On the whole the game was not of an exciting nature, although the batting of Rice and Lubransky provided some highlights, and the fielding, especially in the slips when Kilbirnie were batting, earned applause from the spectators. ] Details:— i KILBIRNIE.
