BOXER'S OFFENCE
CASE OF BILL PLUTO
FINE RECOMMENDED
(By Telegraph—l'ress Association.)
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
One of the tasks of the executive of the Manawatu Boxing Association last night was that of deciding what penalty Bill Pluto (Australia) should pay for striking the referee (Mr. Evans) during his fight with McMahon last week. There was a full discussion during which the offence was reviewed from all angles.
The decision was a recommendation to the New Zealand Council that Pluto be fined. There was no desire on the part of the executive to see the boxer's licence cancelled. It was thought that he had already received heavy punishment by the police charging him with assault before a Magistrate, which would mean a black mark for ever. It was also agreed that Pluto had suffered a good deal of provocation.
The executive also decided to try to rematch Pluto and McMahon as it was understood that both were willing to fight again.
