WHO WILL REFEREE?
TITLE BOUT AT SYDNEY
There is a distinct possibility that Merv Williams, the referee of Fitzroy Stadium, will be asked to submit his name as one of the three referees for the world title fight between Barney Ross (U.S.A.) and Jack Carroll, the , Australian welterweight champion, to ' take place at Sydney on-December 8. Mr. Paul Harbulot, the Sydney manager, stated that he considered Williams one of the best officials he had teen. Mr. Pat McHugh said that Williams and the late "Yank"' Pearl were the best referees of recent years, but he considered that the Victorian third man in the ring had a more impressive personality and better control over the boxers. The other officials in the running for the big fight are Messrs. Harold Baker and A. D. Barling. According to Mr. Bert Potts, the well-known promoter, one of the con- . ditions of the contest was that the referee was to be an American.
