DIAMOND WEDDING

HIS MAJESTY'S MESSAGE The diamond jubilee of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. East was celebrated at their home in Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, "on Wednesday, September 16, amid the members of their family. Mr. and Mrs. East, whose ages are 83 and 79 respectively, were born at Hampstead, London, and have resided in Wellington for the past 31 years. Mr. East commenced business as a bookseller in Cuba Street, and has a wide circle of friends. For the past 60 years'he has spent much Of his'time working for the moral and religious education of' children. Mr. and Mrs. East 'are Connected with the Vivian Street and Brooklyn Baptist Churches. They have received congratulations from his Majesty the King and the Mayor of Wellington, the Prime Minister, the High Commissioner (Mr. Jordan), the Brooklyn Ratepayers' Association, the B.W.M.U. of the Baptist Church, the Mornington branch, and from many other friends. They have had nine children, six of whom are living. There are sixteen grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Chapman (Miramar) " sang "Bless This House" and "I Had a Garden," the choir also contributing two numbers. The president gave the thought for the month: "God grant that we may realise it is the little things that create differences;'that in the big things of life we are one." Mrs. G. L. Stewart gave a most instructive address on "Sincerity and the' Child." The speaker divided her subject into three groups dealing with the nation, the individual, and the child. In dealing with the child, Mrs. Stewart pointed out the importance of training the child to be "God conscious." Through the depression, had we been more spiritual, we would not have been so hardly hit.
