MORTGAGE BILL
FAIR PROGRESS MADE Fair progress was made by the House of Representatives, yesterday afternoon on the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Bill and its amendments, which were considered in Committee, and when the House rose at 5.30. p.m. .clause 47 was under discussion. .Mr. W. A, Bodkin (National, Central Otago) moved an amendment to clause 43 dealing with variation in the terms of repayment, that the mortgagor may, with the mortgagee's consent, borrow any part of the sum to be repaid. The amendment was negatived by 36 votes to 12, after the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) had explained that this power was contained in the clause in a permissive sense.
