ESPERANTO CLUB

The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club' . was held. last Monday evening in the hall of the Tafarua Tramping Club, Nathan's Building, Grey Street. Mr. Vernon J. Leek, D.8.E.A., presided. He stated that it was a pleasure to preside from such a substantial platform, which had been erected during the weekend by a working bee of the club. Special thanka were given to all who had assisted, particularly to Mr. Fred Prentice, who had not only drawn up the plan and made all the arrangements in connection with the timber, but had taken charge of the working bee and worked "like three men" to get the stage finished in time. The president, on behalf of the club, presented ' a Cox's Esperanto Commentary to Mr. Prentice, who suitably responded. The vice-president recited an original and amusing series of verses • entitled "Dank" al Freddy Prentice," briefly describing the building of the stage. After the enrolment of new members classes were formed under the direction of experienced teachers, The programme period opened with a talk in Esperanto on "La Valoro de Legado by the president. Mr. Henri W. Thorns recited "Studentokanto,"' written by the late Dr. L. L. Zamenhof, author of Esperanto. Musical items, "Hula Nights" and "Blue Lagoon," were rendered by Messrs. Joseph Thomas and Nelson Hill on their guitars. Miss Kathleen Stirling recited. "La Nokta Kanto de Soldato" from "La Fundamenta Krestomatio." An entertaining and original monologue, "Fantomo de 1' Kastelo," was, presented by Mr. G. Blong. The concluding item was an original one-scene sketch "Tute Ne Gravas," the players being Messrs. Anton Vogt and Bertram Potts. It was announced that a supper and dance would take place next Monday evening in place of the usual programme period. _________„«—
