R.S.A. DANCE

The Returned' Soldiers! Association provided excellent entertainment for their guests at a dance and social evening in the association's clubrooms at Lower Hutt. Dance numbers were interspersed with social items, and a home-made supper was provided by the social committee. Concert, items ■".were given by the following artists:—Mr. R. Cowie, wartime anecdotes; Mrs. Shakespeare and Mrs. Olsen, vocal items; Kiss Joyce Webster, elocution; Miss Weno Tahiwi, Maori songs;,and Miss Heather Wright, acrobatic and tap dancing. The accompanists were Mrs. Shakespeare, Miss Tahiwi, and Mr. J. Mann, who was pianist also for the community singing. The social committee and guests included Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Ashton (the latter in black dovetyn), Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hislop (floral silk voile), Mr. and Mrs. R, Cowie (nigger marocain), Mr. and Mrs; Wylton (blue floral voile), Mrs. H.'Taylor (floral georgette), Mrs. Mustard (blue matalasse), Mr. and Mrs. Brown (pink shadow ninon), Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Whiteman,. Mr. and Mrs. McNicol, Mr. and Mrs. Robins, Mr. and Mrs. Latham, Mr, and Mrs. Toomath, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Parkins, Mrs. Weggory, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Shand, Mr. and' Mrs. Parsons, Mrs. Adamson, Mr. and i Mrs. Garrett, and Messrs. D. Annear, N. Berry, and R. Day. . : . Children's Party. ~ ; : The committee :of the Plunket Society, Lower Hutt, is busy with arrangements for the children's plain and fancy dress, party in St. Peter's Hall next Saturday afternoon. The party promises to be unusually attractive for both children and adults. Included in the programme will be a Ts'aypole dance in costume and a'children's "fairy play entitled "The Pot of Musk." Exhibitions of fancy dancing are to be given by, the pupils pt Miss Kathleen Bartosh, and. prizes ; are offered for the best costumes, in the different classes.. of fancy dress. The' committee is providing afternoon, tea. Lower Hutt Methodist Guild. Mrs. King, the president of; the Lower Hutt Methodist ■ Guild, welcomed members of the Taita Institute, who were guests of the guild.' Tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Stonehouse and Hughes, and a bring-and-buy stall under the management of. Mesdames Hall and Leasdill did a brisk business. Vocal items were contributed by Mrs. Rothery, with Mrs. Taylor as accompanist.

A very interesting demonstration upon making cake-baskets from pine cones was given by Mrs. Morris, the leader of the arts and crafts section. Mrs. Morris also demonstrated the fashioning of string shopping bags and children's toys.
