FALSE PRETENCES

TERM OF IMPRISONMENT

A charge of obtaining goods' and' money to the value of £5 by means of a false pretence and with intent to defraud was brought against Douglas Arthur Fletcher Bremer, mechanic, aged 40 years, in the Magistrate's Court today. Mr. W. F. Stilwell was on the Bench.

R'evell, who prosecuted, said that on or about July 1 the accused borrowed • a blank cheque from a man who believed that the accused was going to purchase a fur coat from him. . The accused fillad in the cheque with the name "V. Ball" and'cashed it with a lady from whom he obtained 16s 7d in goods and £4 3s 5d in money. When arrested he said that he had committed the thefts because he had been destitute. There were twelve previous convictions.,

The accused pleaded guilty and a sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed.
