WAGES INCREASED

WAJERSIDE LABOUR

As a result of the announcement that legislation is to be introduced when Parliament resumes restoring salaries and wages to the 1931 level, it is reported that the hourly rate of pay for waterside workers throughout New Zealand has been increased.

The Westport "Times" states that an additional 2d an hour has been granted as from July 1 and that the increase is to be made retrospective to cover all ships loaded as from April 1 last.

Timber. —Ordinary, 2s 4d per hour; overtime up to 10.15 p.m., 3s 6d; overtime from 10.15 p.m. to midnight, 4s 8d; Saturday afternoons, 4s Id; Saturday, 6 p.m. to midnight, 4s Bd.

Coal.—Ordinary rate, 2s lid per hour; overtime up to 10.15 p.m.. 3s lOd; overtime from 10.15 p.m. to midnight, 4s 6d; Saturday afternoon, 4s 4d; Saturdays, 6 p.m. to midnight, ss.
