BUILDING ACTIVITY
LOWER HUTT HOMES
Lower Hutt is at present making a strong effort to catch up pn its building shortage. In every part of the borough homes are being built which are occupied almost before they leave the builder's hands. The preference appears to be at present to build with an external plaster finish. Concrete external walls are also being built, and wooden walls have apparently waned in popularity. The majority of the houses built are of average size, though at leaot one is valued at an amount approaching £3000. The figures for May show that permits for 37 buildings, valued at £25,209, were issued. In the corresponding month of last year the figures were 19 permits valued at £7613.
