SPEEDWAY RACING-
TEST DATES ARRANGED
Acting in conjunction with the speedway companies operating in the Dominion the New Zealand Auto-cycle Union has now confirmed the holding of three official speedway tests between England and an Australian-New Zealand team, the permit for which was granted by the English Auto-cycle Union, the world-controlling body. This is the first time since the institution of speedway racing in this country that sanction has been given for the holding of official matches. The- teams will comprise four riders, and eight heats wlil be necessary to decide each match. The events will be run under English rules, that is from clutch starts operating with an electric starting gate.
The first test is to be staged in Christchurch on February 1, the second in Wellington on February 8, and the final match in Auckland on February 15.
The English team will be E. Langton, who captained England in the six tests held in Britain last season against Australia, R. Harrison, S. Greatrex, and W. Clibbert. The combined Austra-lian-New Zealand team, which will be chosen by the New Zealand Auto-cycle Union, will be selected from R. Case and L. Van Praag (Australia), W. Kilmister (Wellington), A. Mattson (Auckland), and J. Hobson (Christ-1 church).
