A political assassination of national significance occurred today when a lone gunman ambushed and shot and killed Mr. Walter Liggett, crusading editor of the "Minneapolis Mid-west American." For months Mr. Liggett, who is one of the nation's leading radical publicists, had been engaged in a bitter editorial campaign against Mr. Floyd Olson, Minnesota's farmer Labour Party Governor, who has been frequently mentioned as a possible third party Presidential candidate. In bitter leading articles Mr. Liggett accused the Government of corruption and of shielding gamblers and criminals. Recently Mr. Liggett was assaulted and beaten by thugs, but continued his campaign. . j
