DESCENDANT OF SAPPHO
Gay Broney, the winner of the Dargaville Cup last Thursday and a candidate for the Auckland Cup, is bred to. stay, as he was got by Kilbroney from Jolly Gay, by Prince" Merriwee from Jolie Fille, by Soult from Merry Maid,.by Hotchkiss from Maid of Athol, by Maribyrnong, and so on to the Sappho taproot. Sappo was a grey mare bred about a century ago, but her influence still exists. Some of the most notable members of the tribe include Merriwee, a Melbourne Cup winner, Scots Grey, Savannaka, Etraweenie, Kingsborough, a long list of notables on the Turf and at the stud.
