It is understood that Korero is to be raced in future under lease by Mr. W. Higgins, of Wellington. Red Sun is to do his holiday racing on the flat. After contesting the highweight on the first day at Awapuni he may come in for the open handicap on the second day.

Caliente was withdrawn from the Auckland Cup at 11.38 a.m. on Monday.

H. N. Wiggins has been engaged to ride Mungatoon in the Auckland Cup and II Duce in the Railway Handicap. Mr. R. Hatch, who has decided to remain in Melbourne, has'resigned his position as starter to the Greymouth Jockey Club, and Mr. F. Roche, of Westport, has been appointed to suc-r ceed him.

Nine applications were received by the Riverton Racing Club for the starting position next Easter. At the request of the president, however, Mr. A. D. Mclvor has been persuaded to officiate again.

Needful, a winner at the Dargaville Meeting at Avondale last Saturday, is a four-year-old gelding by Martarma from-Necessity, by Nassau, and he was sold as a yearling for 45 guineas. He is owned by Mr. W. Hosking, for whom he is trained by F. Smith at Takanini.

Although L. J. Ellis has been engaged to ride Silver Streak in the Auckland Railway Handicap, there seems to be some doubt if the gelding will go north, as he was nominated last Friday for the Dunedin Jockey Club's Meeting.

S. Wilson's riders at the Auckland Meeting include Argentic (Cup), Legatee (Derby), and Mazzini.

P. Burgess's mounts at Otaki will be Sanguine King and R. Penman's Maiden candidate. J. McCauley will be on Happy Landing. Custodian, whose name appears in the nominations for the Dunedin Meeting, has been in steady work under J. Pankhurst's charge at Orari for some weeks past, and he has given every indication of making good later in the season.

The only owner to win a three-figure sum at the recent Woodville Meeting was Mr. F. Ormond, whose horses (Werohia, Mesurina. and Le Touquet) earned £227 in stakes.

R. Reed and P. Atkins both rode three winners at the recent Woodville Meeting, and S. Anderson and B. H. Morris each had two successes. Among the trainers W. McKinnon saddled up three winners and L. Wilson two winners.

In a list of times recently published for leading Australian events it was stated that the record for the A.J.C. St. Leger was 3.2. A. correspondent correctly points out that Lady Valais in 1924 recorded 2min 59? sec for this race. .

H. and A. Cutts have added another two-year-old to their team, Mr. G. R. Macdonald having sent them the Robespierre—Lady Minerva filly. She is a half-sister to Minerval and Ayresleigh, and she was purchased for 100 guineas at the National sales at Trentham last January. The three-year-old Ben Field, who has been racing in New South Wales, has been returned to Queensland. After he won a two-year-old race at Rosehill an offer of 3000 guineas for him was xefused. Such is the uncertainty of racing that he has not won a race since. A regular attendant on the Ellerslie tracks is a former Auckland lightweight, A. Downing, who rode successfully a few years ago. Downing rode Windorah to victory for Mr. G. M. Currie in the Takapuna Cup of 1919. He has. applied for a. rider's licence with the intention of again following his calling.

The historic Town Plate was run at Newmarket (England) on October 9, the distance being four miles. There was nearly a tragedy, as Erain, the favourite, fell, but luckily his rider. Miss G. Carlow, was thrown clear of the other runners. The race was won for the third time in four years by Miss Audrey Bell, riding her father's horse, Lady Gold.-
