THEFT OF FISHING GEAR
A charge of the theft of an anchor, rope, and fishing line, of the total value of 21s, was made against Bernard Victor .Edhouse in the Petone Court today, before Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M. Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer said that a quantity of gear was stolen from a fisherman, who was a foreigner. Part of it was found in, a shed belonging to the defendant. At first he said he had bought the gear, but later admitted having stolen it. A considerable amount of the gear was still missing. The defendant, who was 18£ years of age, was at present on probation and had been before the Court three times, already for theft. Mr. G. Findlay, who entered a plea of guilty on behalf of the defendant, said his client's trouble seemed to be mostly in connection with boats. He was promised employment on his uncle's farm, and he asked for a further period of probation.
After warning Edhouse that he would be sent to gaol but for his age, the Magistrate extended the probation for two years from today.
