SEVERAL BIG WINS

LARWOOD FOUR FOR EIGHT

There were some sensational results in the series of county cricket championship matches which was completed today, and several counties scored outright wins by wide margins.

In the match between Nottinghamshire and Hampsh~ve, the latter county was dismissed for 37 runs in its second innings, Harold Larwood taking four wickets at a total cost of 8 runs. Lancashire dismissed Sussex in the second innings for 67 runs, and thereby won the match by 64 runs, after having been 94 runs behind on the first innings. Bowling for Lancashire Booth took six for 60 and five for 28. In their match against Worcestershire, Yorkshire declared their innings closed with a score of 445 for five wickets and dismissed their opponents for 92 and 189, Bowes taking eight for 40 and five for 48. Herbert Sutcliffe carried his bat for 200 in Yorkshire's innings. Results are:— Middlesex v. Essex, at Lord's.—Middlesex 298. Essex 85 (Sims six for 28) and, following on, 172 (Robins six for 39). Middlesex won by an innings and 41 runs. Kent v. Glamorgan, at Cardiff.— Kent 339 (Fagg 94, Chapman 76), and 280 for four wickets, declared '(Ashdown 134, not out). Glamorgan 207 (Freeman six for 86) and 129 (Freeman five for 49). Kent won by 283 runs. Lancashire v. Sussex, at Hove. — Lancashire 122 (J. Parks five for 54) and 225. Sussex 216 (H. Parks 107; Booth six for 60) and 67 (Booth five for 28). Lancashire won by 64 runs. Nottinghamshire v. Hampshire, at Nottingham,—Nottinghamshire 499 for nine, declared (Hardstaff 163, Harris 87). Hampshire 221 (Mead 117, not out), and, following on, 37 (Larwood four for 8). Nottinghamshire won by an innings and 241 runs. Worcestershire v. Yorkshire, at Sheffield.—Worcestershire 92 (Bowes eight for 40) and 189 (Bowes five for 48). Yorkshire 445-for five wickets, declared (Sutcliffe 200, not out, Wood 123, not out). Yorkshire won by an innings and 164 runs. Northamptonshire v. Warwickshire, at Birmingham.—Northamptonshire 186 (Hollies seven for 60) and 129 (Mayer four for 36, Paine four for 35). Warwickshire 199 and 117 for one wicket. Warwickshire won by nine wickets. Oxford University v. Leicestershire, at Oxford.—Oxford University 149 (Geary seven for 30) and 108 (Astill five for 16). Leicestershire 109 (Dar-wall-Smith six for 41) and 23 for four wickets. The match was drawn. Surrey v. Gloucestershire, at the Oval.—Surrey 344 (Gregory 92) and 252 for four wickets, declared (Squires 106). Gloucestershire 265 and 192 for seven. Surrey won on the first innings.
