TENNIS AT PARIS
AUSTIN'S FINE RECOVERY
(Received June 1, 2.30 p.m.)
PARIS, May 31 Additional results in the French tennis championships are:—
Women's Singles, quarter-finals.— Miss Scriven defeated Mile. Couquerque, 6-0, 6-3; Madame Sperling defeated Mile. Iribarne, 6-2, 6-2; Miss Jacobs defeated Mile. Henrotin, 6-4, 6-2.
There was an unexpected result to Austin's 2J-hour battle with Menzel. It was one of the few occasions in Austin's career that he has won by superior stamina after his opponent had led by two sets to one. Austin won by f orcing_ tactics and remained comparatively fresh while Menzel, in the fifth set, was staggering about the court.
Pgrry eliminated Boussus, a much more experienced player than Bernard, with even greater ease than that
with which Crawford beat Bernard. Perry bustled Boussus so much that the latter was unable to execute even his favourite shots.
