MISHAP TO TEKOA

A mishap between the steamers Tekoa and Mundalla was narrowly averted at Brisbane recently by skilful manoeuvrings by officers in charge of the vessels and tugs which "were with the Tekoa. The Tekoa left Musgraye Wharf at South Brisbane bound for another, wharf, and had reached Petrie Bight Bend just as the Mundalla was travelling up the. river to her

berth. After the Mundalla passed, the Tekoa, unable to straighten up in time, crashed into the lower end of Howard Smith's Wharf, and smashed through 20 feet of girders and deck' planking before she was stopped by a stone wall under the wharf. A diver examined the vessel later, and reported that she had suffered only slight'damage. .It was decided that the mishap had. been caused by the two vessels meeting at that particular spot, and the preliminary court commended the skilful action of the pilot in charge of the Tekoa. After docking, she sailed last Sunday for the United Kingdom.
