SHEEPSKIN PRICES RISE

Competition for sheepskins was very spirited at the fortnightly sale of hides and skins held by Wellington woolbrokers yesterday. Dry skins were again keenly competed for and recorded an advance of from {& to Jd a lb on the last sale's prices. Salted skins sold well up to late rates. In the hides sale all sections of the trade were operating, and keen competition resulted, prices for the various grades being fully firm, and in some cases Jd higher than last sale. Heavy calf showed little change, and light were about id dearer. The range of prices was as follows:— Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, s|d to B£d; fine crossbred, 6d to 7 id; medium, 5Jd to 7£d; coarse, 43d to 6Jd; half wools, 4d to 63d; quarter wools, 3£d to s£d; pelts, 2d to 4^d. Salted skins: Half wools, 2s 3d to 3s; three-quarter wools, 3s to 3s 9d. Hides: Ox, 331b to 441b 4 3-8d to sd, 451b to 521b 3<Jd to 5Jd, 531b to 591b 4 5-8d to 6Jd, 601b to 691b 4?d to 7 l-Bd, 101b and over 6 7-8d to 8d; cow, 331b to 391b 3d to 5Jd, 401b to 481b 3-Jd to 5H 491b and over 3Jd to sid; kip, 251b to 321b 3 7-8d to s£d, 171b to 241b 4d to 6 7-8d; yearling, 111b to 161b, 3d to 7 3-8d; calf, 91b to 101b 6 l-8d to Bd, 61b to 81b s£d to 9Jd, lib to 51b 3 7-8d to 8.3d.
