LONDON HIDES PRICES.

Weddel and Co., London, April 18, reported on the hides market as follows:—"The firm position has continued throughout the week. In North America heavy native steers are nominally held for 12 cents, Hi cents having been paid, while in the Plate 70 cents has been paid for several thousand Argentine Frigorifico ox hides. All stocks are reduced to a minimum with further buying likely to continue right up to the holidayr. A certain amount of business is being done with Europe, but North America is really largely responsible for the firm tone. Even light selections have come into the picture, and although it has been difficult to obtain more money for them they have been more eagerly inquired for and have sold fairly freely. It looks fairly certain now that the forward trend of the market is gradually being appreciated."
