DELIGHTFUL PICNIC

COUNCIL STAFF OUTING

The excellent weather, the attractiveness •of the surroundings, and the happy care-free outlook of tho pienickcrg combined to make- the staff picnic of the Wellington City Council at Day's Bay yesterday a most enjoyable outing; indeed, in tho opinion of some- of the older employees it was one of the best they had attended.

A good sports programme was provided in Williams Park, adults and boys and girls being well catered for, but the beach with its bathing, boating, and donkey rides was very popular. • A full record was not kept of the sports events. The George and Doughty Cup for tho best aggregate in the 100 yards and 220 yards events was won by Mclntyre, with Elliott second, ana the change-over staff of the electricity department won the city councillors' cup for relay racing. Other events included a tennis tournament, a putting competition, canoe race, swimming, and diving. I. MacGrcgor won the 50 yards swimming event, with Archibald second. First and second places in the diving were won by I. and R. MacGrcgor re-' spectivcly. The tennis tournament was won by Messrs. Patterson and Mc : Ilraith. Milk, ice-cream, and cordials wero issued during the luncheon adjournment, and again in the afternoon. , The committee responsible for the organisation comprised Miss Bennie, ; Messrs. Kirk, Tennet, Spolsky, H. E. Nicholls, Stempa, and Blackmail, Among I those present during the day were 'Councillors T. Brindlo and P. M. Butler. I A dance in the evening completed a I very successful outing.
