RECKLESS DRIVING. CHARGE
An account of a, hurried' drive round tie Miiritai Road on December 22 to avoid holding up.a wedding was given in the Petone Court today, beforo Mr. ,W. V. Stilwell, S.M., when Henry Robinson was charged with reckless driving. | A plea of guilty was entered. .'■Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer saiS the defendant iwas seen driving on. the Muritai Road at a speed which various witnesses estimated at 45 6r 50 miles an hour. 5/iie road was a twisting one'. The defendant explained that hewus best man at a wedding and had' spoeded. up so as not to delay the ceremony- ■ - "The senior-sergeant has set forth the position clearly," commenced Mr. T..i,A. Cunningham, who appeared for the' defendant. ;' "And charitably," interjected the Magistrate, amidst laughter. , ( Continuing, Mr. Cunningham said that the defendant came down' from Masterton to assist at the wedding, which -was at 2.30 p.m. The offence was committed at 2 . p.m. The bride wanted some things from.her home at Day's Bay, and the defendant offered to got them, for her. Tho time was short, so he drove quicker than -nsua.. Ho -vfis generally a most careful driver. He did not think he was doing the speed p?ith -which he was credited. The offence was not likely to be repeated. The Magistrate imposed >a find of £1.
