NOVEL EXCURSION
. TRIP TO NAPIER
' A railway excursion to Napier which had several novel features was run last weekend and was patronised by about 400 people from Wellington. The train left here "at 11 p.m. on Saturday, this late departure being arranged to save excurhionist? the expense and trouble of obtaining accommodation at Napier on Saturday night. By the time . Palmerston North was lenchod the number-of travellers had increased to 500. The train arrived at Napier on Sunday morning, most of the passengers 'having snatched at least several hours' sleep without diflicnlty. The innovation of giving excursionists the opportunity of travelling to their destination in the small hours of the night evidently proved" very popular, and it is 'intended to run further trips of the same type to Waitomo, New Plymouth, and other .places of interest in the north in the near future.
While at Napier the travellers were able to leave their belongings in the carriages in which they had made the journey, the doors being locked as soon as they had disembarked. The excursion train returned from Napier late on Sunday , afternoon-
